Two Colombian friends of my parents came as guests to my house for a week, as they came to Lima to exhibit their art pieces in Art Lima, a very famous art fair/exhibition in which many artists around the world showcase their masterpieces.
Tutua is a very old friend of my parents, I know her since I was born, and she came to expose her colorful and unique “meninas”. She came together with Ana, her daughter in law, who is a photographer and fascinated us with her photographs with neon lights incorporated in it.
This past Wednesday was a very interesting, inspiring and artistic day for me. After school, I went to my art classes in Toto Fernandez’ art studio; I am currently working on a painting that reveals myself with an elephant, my favorite creature, and I am really enjoying my classes and all the process.
After this productive, relaxing and inspiring class, I went directly to two art exhibitions. Together with my parents, I first visited PARC (Perú Arte Contemporáneo) in the MAC museum, and I was impressed with the variety of styles and the creativity of the pieces exhibited. Then, we visited the Escuela Militar in Chorrillos, where ArtLima was taking place. I loved the place, the amount of selection, and the immense variety of people visiting the fair. It is great that we, as Peruvians, are finally letting ourselves be captivated by art. We are finally learning to appreciate it, enjoy it and getting infected by its colors and creativity.
“Painting is just another way of keeping a diary” ~Picasso
The colors, the texture, the shapes, and everything that an art piece is able to express is the image of an artist’s soul.
Our eyes see it, but our soul feels it.
“One eye sees, the other feels” ~Paul Klee
The artist’s inspiration, and his/hers hours of work are carried out and rewarded when the audience is able to appreciate it and admire their work.
This past week, Lima has exploded with culture and color. The exhibitions were a magnificent experience to realize and appreciate the artistic “boom” and growth that is currently happening in Lima.
This weekend we have inhaled art without ceasing in my house, with the Colombian girls that stayed in my house. We’ve literally had art for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. These past weeks, with art so close to me, have helped me recognize my love and passion for it.
“If you ask me what I came to do in this world, I, an artist, will answer you: I am here to live out loud.” ~Émile Zola
This past Sunday we decided to visit PARC again, but this time, accompanied by León, my three-year-old brother, as he insisted to come with us to inhale some art too. His look went skimming through the paintings and different art pieces, his little hands went smoothly touching some of the sculptures, and we all enjoyed his questions and innocent appreciation for art.
I am glad to be surrounded by art. I had the luck to be born in the middle of a very artistic family. My passion for art is constantly empowered by my actress sister, my artist and designer mom, my publicist dad, and my creative little brother.
