When we were first introduced to the "IBG", I was kind of scared and worried. My last experience doing a project of my choice and having all the liberty to do what I wanted had not been successful at all, so I feared to fail again -- this is a clear example of a fixed mindset.
All of my fears, concerns, worries, and anxieties flew away as soon as I came up with a great idea for my IBG.
This summer, I started a pajama business. I began this business due to the lack of things I had to do in the summer and because I can never find nice pajamas in Lima. With the help of my mom, several visits to Gamarra, hours of planning and organizing, millions of calculations, and a lot of effort, I was able to successfully open a pajama business. I called it "Ángel de mi Guarda". I created a Facebook page and thankfully, I was able to sell most of my products. I was very happy and satisfied with this summer project I decided to do by my own and I felt that my summer had been very productive. Unfortunately, as soon as school started, I stopped all the activities of my small business. My excuse was lack of time, and besides, the MYP does not help students pursue their passions at all, so it was hard and unmotivating for me to continue with my business.
The IBG opened the doors for me to continue with my business and pursue this passion of mine. I decided to do it in group as I find it more motivating and I consider that I work best in teamwork. After asking some 10th, 11th and 12th graders about their passions and ideas for IBG, I was able to form a nice group of 5. Chiara, Rafaella and I are interested in all the part of the design, and Romina and Belen are interested in all the marketing part. The five of us are very excited and a lot of amazing ideas rise in every meeting we have. The motivation and emotion are obvious in our group, and that pushes us to be productive and love what we do. We have already finished all the pajama designs, we have created goals for the next meetings, and we have designed a kind of calendar with our goals for each month. We are keeping organized through a group on Facebook and we write short reflections at the end of every day we meet in a Google doc.
